Schaezlerpalais

Augsburg has many treasures and some of them are open to the public, such as the Rococo ball room of Schaezlerpalais. In the 18th century, critics all over Europe used the term “Augsburg taste” as a synonym for German Rococo. Imagine a dance here in beautiful costumes and live classical music!

One person who did have that pleasure was Marie Antoinette. You may have heard of her. She danced here in this ball room as a 14-year old. One year later, in 1770, she married and became Duchess of France. Four years later she became Queen. And then came the French Revolution and, well, that was not so nice for her.
