More from Reykjavik

These are some more pictures we took yesterday afternoon in Reykjavik. We had the most wonderful weather, sunny and not one cloud in the sky.

The first picture is Dómkirkja, the old church of the city. This church was already there when Konrad was here. Some years later, in 1880, Alþingishúsið was built next to it, which is now the building of the Icelandic Parliament, the Alþingi (Althing).

The far better known church in town today is Hallgrímskirkja, remarkable both in size, position on a hill and architecture. Inside it is modern, plain, but friendly and full of light. And it contains a very fine huge church organ (made in Germany). The benches have flip-backs so you can choose to either face the altar or the organ, as you like. There's an elevator to the top of the steeple where you can enjoy a good view of Reykjavik from above.

View from the church top lookout towards the city center.

In the evening I said goodbye to my parents who flew back home, and now my own trip really starts.
