Stykkishólmur

This morning I visited Stykkishólmur, which is a pretty town with a harbour on the north shore of Snæfellsnes.

Konrad Maurer was here on 25 Aug 1858. Stykkishólmur has quite a few old buildings preserved, so I asked at the tourist information if any of them were already here in 1858. We consulted a detailed brochure and found out: exacly one house. The house is named Norska Húsið, it was built in 1832 and it's the black house in this picture. Today it hosts a museum.

From Stykkishólmur you can take ferries to the West Fjords and to the islands located in between, and this is actually what Konrad had done here in the 11 days between 15 and 26 August. But my timetable is too tight to do this on this travel, so I had to move on.
