Rain, a monster lake and a friendly cafe

Rain, rain, rain on my drive eastward from Mývatn through a rubble desert landscape. So I can show you nothing from that trip. But I can tell you of seeing "true Icelanders" here in Fellabær: they were playing golf. In the pouring rain.

I have also discovered a weather phenomenon that was new for me: I will call it Nieselnebel. As you will know, fog is just a cloud that is too tired to fly. And now this is such a tired cloud that has just decided to rain. So the raindrops form and fall only a few metres until they touch ground.

I can also tell you the story that the lake Lagarfljót is said to host a giant worm-like monster, similar to Loch Ness in Scotland. Reassuringly, my room for the night was just 10 metres away from the lake!

But as you can see from my writing, the monster didn't get me. And I want to use that happy opportunity show you the friendliest place I found in that town, the Bókakaffi (which means book cafe). It is on the ring road on the right hand side in Fellabær just before you cross Lagarfljót Bridge over to Egilsstaðir.

It admittedly looks plain from the outside. But it's the inside that counts, where they have friendly staff, excellent coffee, cakes, thai meals, walls full of bookshelves to browse, and best of all for me, free Internet!
