Only a few kilometers east of lake Mývatn, on the east side of the pass Námaskarð, is a high-temperature area called Hverir, also known as
Hverarönð.

It features fumaroles where hot steam comes out of the ground and also "
mud pools" full of boiling hot, bubbling, sulphurous, acidic mud.
You do
not want to fall into any of them. It's not a nice death.
