Skjaldarvík

Before I continue my travel adventures, I want to show you the place where I stayed last night. I have booked accommodation with Icelandic Farm Holidays, but this one, north of Akureyri, is not a farm and was never a farm. It looked like a hospital at first impression; on my inquiry I learned that it had been a sort of retirement home. I was a bit disappointed at first, but the house quickly changed my mind.

Not only because of the excellent beds and modern showers and the hot pot. Also because of the artistic flavor that runs through every corner of this house. Flowers are planted in teapots, shoes and baby carriages. Paintings of farm animals, all seen from the rear end. Strange objects are found everywhere, such as a big brass diver's helmet in the bathroom. Black books attached to the wall as direction signs. Cutlery glued decoratively to the wall leading to the breakfast room. The breakfast room itself completely in white. And the breakfast the next morning was four star hotel quality.
