Vinur Íslands: Konrad Maurer 1823–1902
Those of you who follow my blog may remember the publication of my biographic book about my great-great-grandfather, titled "Der Islandfreund: Konrad Maurer 1823–1902".
Today I am happy to annouce that an Icelandic translation of this book, titled "Vinur Íslands: Konrad Maurer 1823–1902", is now available
More than 100 years after his death, the forerunner of Nordic Studies, Prof. Dr. Konrad Maurer, is still in the hearts and minds of the Icelandic people. They say that Maurer was one of the greatest foreign friends Iceland ever had. He supported the Icelandic struggle with Denmark for independence from neutral grounds, as a German from Munich. In 1858 he undertook an adventurous voyage to Iceland. And he collected and published Icelandic folk tales, following the example of the brothers Grimm.
I owe great thanks to Katrín Matthíasdottir who made this translation.
