Doorway to Arabian Nights

Today I want to show you the product of another creative project I busied myself with on the last weekend.

My idea was to make the entrance to my bedroom a little more 'special' and appealing. But I couldn't make any permanent changes to the door or the frame itself, as I don't own this flat. One night I had the brilliant idea of adding a board to cover up the top -- like the one you see in the photo -- so that it changes the boring rectangular doorway into a curved, domed one. Simple and effective.

Since I've designed my new bedroom in Arabian Nights style (auf Deutsch heißt das "1001 Nacht"), I took the inspiration and came up with the shape and colours that you see here.

I love doing things like that!

A new job

Hurra, good news! I found a new job (no, not as a musician or book author -- as a software developer, which is what I prefer to do professionally)!

My new company is located in Aichach, so I must get used to a somewhat longer drive to reach work. It is a small team, but this is nice for me for a change, after having worked in a big enterprise for 10 years.

Now to the photo, this is a droll story. A friend brought to my attention that an American author has published a novel named "Protecting the Cittern" which has a Waldzither on its cover. I had a closer look at the cover and realized: it is not just any Waldzither, it is mine. The author's publisher had taken the photo from Wikipedia without informing me, and as it turned out, in violation of the copyleft license. I contacted him and he apologized, corrected the mistake and sent me a free copy of his book.

Abschied

Wir nehmen Abschied von unserer lieben Omi, die heute am 8. Februar 2012 im Alter von 98 Jahren von uns gegangen ist.

Cold winter

Last weekend my nieces and I built a beatiful igloo in my garden. That was good fun!

The next day the temperatures dropped and have stayed below zero since. So we've had real winter and strong frost in the past week. Last night the thermometer reached a record low of -20°C.

I checked to see if our lake, Ilsesee, is frozen over. It is, and beautifully so. The ice is crystal clear. It almost looks like water in the photo. But it's not yet strong enough to walk or skate on. A few more days with unchanged weather should make it...
